Rodeo Queen Contest

Contest Date -  - July 10th at 10:00 am at the Cedar County Fairgrounds Rodeo Arena
Rain Date - July 11th
Calling all Cowgirls!! It’s fair time once again! Saddle up and come see what the second annual Cedar County Fair Rodeo Queen Contest has in store for you! I am honored to say that the Ag Society has given me the opportunity to bring my love for rodeo queening to Hartington this year! The reason for selecting a rodeo queen is to get young girls involved in the sport of rodeo. A queen’s job is to represent and help promote their rodeo at other events and to make the public aware of all the great activities that are held at the Cedar County Fair!

The contest will be open to unmarried girls from the ages of 13-20 who live in the counties of Cedar, Knox, Dixon and Wayne. The contestants must maneuver their horses through a competitive reigning pattern and answer a few questions on selected topics, and be proud to represent the Cedar County Fair for an entire year! Prizes will be awarded to the Queen and 1st runner-up. The 2009 Rodeo Queen will be given a sparkling crown and trophy belt buckle!

Best Pie in the County

It is that time again to pull out the recipe book and dust it off so that you can start practicing making that pie for this year's pie contest. Cedar County Fair will be holding the 5th Annual Pie Contest during this year's fair again. The judges are already signing up to taste this year's delectable entries. Past Grand Prize winner have included an Oatmeal Raisin Cookie Pie and a Fresh Peach and Nectarine no-bake pie.

All ages and all types of pies are welcomed and encouraged. Whether you are just starting to bake or have been baking for years, bake up your best pie and bring it down to the fair. This year's contest will be on Sunday, July 18th. There are 4 categories for pies to be entered. We have double crust baked, single crust baked, custard/cream pies, and no-bake. You can enter just about anything in a pie plate. We have had some great winners in the last couple years with a unique variety of pies.

Pies need to be entered at the Quilt Building office between 1:00 and 3:00pm on Sunday afternoon. There will be cash prizes for 1st ($25) and 2nd ($15) place in each category and an over all Grand Prize ($50).  There will be no entry fee.  The pie judging will begin sharply at 3:15 pm and winners will be announced when judging is complete.  Please put pies in a disposable pie plate as they will not be returned.
